The boyfriend and I were about to sleep when I feel a little prickly kind of thing in my throat. It was around 3 in the morning and we just got back to our boarding house. We were too delightful of the event that night that we almost forgot it's already morning. I could not understand. I feel itchy and I keep coughing. I thought I will be having the flu or something and the hotness I feel inside myself. I could not sleep. I tried to make myself better by sitting in front of the electric fan. And I still could not stand why I'm having a shortness of breathing. The next thing I know, I was on the floor sleeping while the boyfriend was comfy sleeping in the bed.
The next morning. I feel my head is about to blow because it's too painful that I could not even see. My vision is blurry. I took medicine for the pain. And tried to relax and sleep. When I woke up, the headache was gone. The boyfriend was at school. So I was left alone and try to do that usual thing.
I thought it will never gonna happen again. Until one night. I can't stop coughing again and I'm having a shortness of breathing. It's like I need a fresh air. So to feel better, I open my windows and have myself in front of the electric fan. I panicked. That I remember. The next day, I asked the boyfriend to have a checkup because it's troubling me already.
So I had my checkup in one of the clinics in the city. They want me to have some laboratory first. And told us to come back after an hour. Since it was afternoon and we haven't eaten our lunch yet. We decided to have lunch in the near fast food. We are done eating when I received a text from the clinic that we should go back right away because it's urgent. I was worried there might something in my labs that they are very concerned about me.
We went back to the clinic. When they saw us entering the premises, they asked us to sit down and tackle the result. The nurse was too kind, enough not to make us wait. So he spills the beans. She said that I should be careful because I'm too anemic and that I need to have at least 5 bags of blood for my transfusion. I was silent. The boyfriend was the one who asks further about the result. And I don't even remember anything because I'm about to pass out.
I gather my spirit and act as if I'm not affected. I know the boyfriend was worried. We never say anything living the clinic. I was the one who opens up the conversation. I told the boyfriend that I should visit my parents and tell them about it. Went to my parent's house and gave them the news. Again, they are not worried about me. I don't even remember anything about what they said. Well, the idea of coming there is to let them know.
I packed some things because I needed. The boyfriend was too busy contemplating anything and asked if he can go home and tell his parents about me. I let him have his time though I know he is worried and bothered. While he was away, I count all the remaining savings I have. I quit my job that year because I thought of a green pasture. Not knowing I will be on the other side of the pasture.
Since I don't have HMO already. We went to the public hospital in the city. I never thought it was too crowded with people. It was my first time to be there. I was nervous and my knees are trembling and ask the boyfriend I can use the wheelchair. I was at the ER, and the process is not easy. I need to sign some papers and they are going to check my stats. I remember I have a high BP during that time. We waited for our names to be called. Then after they transferred to a bed, they put a hep lock in my hand.
I was too anxious and too tired to wait. I feel like I'm about to lose my soul. The boyfriend was too worried for me because I feel weak already. So he asked the Doctor who was too busy ignoring us. She said that we need to wait for our papers to check. Until the time that we needed to be transferred to a room upstairs, no one was there to check me. Plus the place where I was placed was in the hallway. No air. It was too dry and very hot. The boyfriend noticed my pale face already.
The boyfriend decided to leave the hospital and have me transferred to another Hospital who will take care of me. I was crying already because I don't know what's going on with me. The boyfriend processed the bill, and before we leave. One Doctor came to us and ask if he can check me. The boyfriend was kind of pissed and told the Doctor that we are here for almost 8 hours and no one bothered to check us. Now that we are about to leave the Hospital, someone showed up. I kind of not liking the Doctor, aside from he is not wearing any gloves, he is not wearing a mask and he has colds. What an unprofessional Doctor it is.
So after paying the bill. We went to another semi-private Hospital. We only have the referral paper from the clinic about me having a blood transfusion. The ER nurse there ask me a series of questions and I'm too tired while the boyfriend was paying for the advance payment. Then I heard someone asking about my name. I didn't know she was the Doctor that was referred to me by my cousin. When she saw me, she immediately checks me and asks if I'm okay. Then came the boyfriend. She formally introduces herself to us.
I was delighted that I have my own Doctor now. She asks the nurse to make us a blood request. The Doctor and the boyfriend are talking while I was in bed and very sleepy. The boyfriend came back for me and told me that the nurse will be the one to take care of me while he will go to the blood bank to process my blood transfusion. He was grateful because my Doctor let us borrowed 5 bags of blood for me. He said that it won't be long I will have my blood transfusion.
I don't know how long have I been sleeping when I was in the ward already. The AC was very cold and I feel a lot better. I wake up and saw a lot of patients in that ward. The boyfriend was not around. I feel so tired and enjoy the feeling of my sleepiness and off I'm back to my dreamland. While I was sleeping, a nurse wakes me up that I need to have my blood transfusion now. They give me something first because since it's my first time, it might have some reaction on it. They give me injectible liquid. Then they start the process. I didn't feel anything except the fact that I feel so cold because of the AC. The boyfriend is still not showing up.
Then I have my 2nd bag randomly given to me. When I woke up, the boyfriend was there who I know was tired as well. I didn't bother to wake him up but he did wake up when he noticed I'm awake. He asked me if I feel okay. I said, I am. He reminds me that if in case I feel something awful I will let him know. He also offered me food to eat. I said I'm starving. The Doctor advised him I should have a soft meal, so I only have a soup.
Not too long. I was sent home. I was finally going out. Thinking I will be okay.
But no, that was just another beginning for me.
